My wife and I have the same thoughts and talked for over 20 years about traveling around the USA. I researched trailers for about 8 months due to the fact that we already had a tow vehicle. We purchased a 33 foot Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel in January. We started our travels in March and have put 5000 miles on the unit since then. So far our longest trip was up to LaConner Washington, about 2000 miles round trip. We hit 101 in Napa and took it all the way to our destination in Washington. You can only be the judge of what type of RV will work best for you. With trailers the most important thing IMO is having the proper/safe tow vehicle. It must be able to deal with the weight and size of the entire rig under all condition. In either case you will have upwards of $100,000 tied up so do a lot of research, this and other forums are a treasure trove of information. Look at all your options. This is one of the most fun parts of the process. Don't be in a hurry and don't be pressured. Good luck and safe travels.
