Back track on what? Sounds like they have already taken responsibility but don't want to go that route through their insurance. You could contact your insurance company. They may handle the process for you - in communicating with the HOA.
So our HOA is pretty flaky. The neighborhood is still under construction. By back tracking, I mean that once we give them the price, they'll be shocked and say they don't want to pay that much. Who knows, maybe they'll just buck up and pay it since maintenance of that outlot is their responsibility.
