Exterior repair cost

So, while the outlot between our house and the neighbor's house was being mowed, a rock flew up and hit our camper, creating a hole the size of a silver dollar or so, and also the rock is still stuck in there. The HOA is responsible for maintaining that outlot.

We took it to the body shop of the dealer where we purchased the camper. We received an estimate today (after it sitting there for 2 weeks), and the estimate was $2600. The parts cost in the $300 range, and they're estimating 20 hours of labor to fix this.

Now, our HOA has said they would pay for the repair, but I'm guessing they wouldn't have thought it would cost $2600 and I'm worried they'll try to push back on that.

So my question is, does $2600 seem accurate to do a repair like that, or are they just wayyyy over estimating to be safe and it'll come in much less?

Sounds way high if it is a fiberglass repair. If an aluminum panel must be replaced, it's probably a good quote. For fiberglass, find a boat place.

It's fiberglass. I'm not sure what all underneath the fiberglass needs repair, we couldn't really tell since the rock was lodged in there.

I'm not sure that the HOA is going to report it to their insurance, they had told my husband they'd cover the repair, but I'm just worried they'll be shocked at the price and back track.

We could report it to our own insurance, the deductible is only $50, but we are worried that will increase our premiums.

  • If you agree to the estimate, that is what you are going to pay. For what you describe, $2,600 sounds a little much. I had body shops most of my life and twenty hours of labor does a lot to a vehicle.
  • Sounds way too expensive for that small a repair!! Take it to a body shop (or two) for additional estimates...
