This trailer I am sitting in has EZ lube, which I don't use. The first time I pulled the drums, I had one seal that was barely starting to weep. There was just a bit of lube that had got past it, but not enough to have gotten on the brakes.
I wondered at the time that if I had used the easy lube if it might have pushed enough grease past it to make a mess in there, in which case I would have been buying a new brake backing plate assembly.
I suspect part of the problem with trailers regarding their bearings ( and therefore the idea of ez lube ) is many if not most trailers sit for long periods. Not good on bearings and grease I suspect. All my trailers roll pretty regularly. I think the exercise is good for the grease and therefore the life of the bearings.
To each their own, but I still say pulling the drums periodically to check the condition of the brakes and seals is a good idea.
EDIT: and I disagree these threads are a waste. Let's not forget fellas that some folks coming to this forum are new to trailering, so giving them some food for thought, even if we don't agree, is a good thing.
