I know my uncle warned my dad not to go to fast on the Turnpike back in 1975 when we where in Pennsylvania. Instead, we stopped at a rest area, and bought gas, got a drink, and back on the road in about 15 minutes. Told the toll taker at the other end that we drove straight through, at 55 mph, just like the sign says!
My buddy who drives big rigs would get on the turnpike in OK City and pay a 'fine' for not keeping the ticket when you get on, and paid the full rate for lost ticket, about $15. The cost to drive from OK City to the end of the line was also $15.
Just if you kept the Turnpike ticket, and make it in say 4 hours some 300 miles, they know they can fine you a certain amount for averaging 75 MPH.
Yet this article is about driving through the toll plaza at a unsafe speed. The toll takers are in the boxes on the center of the freeway, and have to get out and take restroom breaks from time to time. So people are crossing the traffic lanes all the time - day and night. You really should be slowing down for the 1/2 mile approach to the plaza and the area around it.
Have fun camping!
