Can someone explain how this works in general when towing? Is it cheaper in the long run? I just signed up and had to get a commercial pass cause CT requires combination plates on pick-ups. They are s...

Again (as someone above mentioned), it doesn't matter where your truck is registered... you can have an EZ Pass account from whatever State you like. For example, even though you are a CT registered vehicle, you can get your EZPass from Massachusetts. I'm South Dakota registered but my EZ Pass is out of Mass. In Mass (unlike some other States), there are no monthly fees or charges for the use of the transponders. The only thing I pay for is the tolls I use.
And like MA, NY also has no E-ZPass transponder or other fees for automatic replenishment accounts, and pickups do not require a commercial account. The NY Thruway also has a motorhome plan where we are charged regular passenger car per axle rates and a discount plan for 5'ers.
