John, sorry you had such a rotten time with Fantasy Tours. Next time, do it on your own and I think you'll enjoy it more.
We were there (& still are, tonight) for 12 nights. We signed up to crew (we're in our 70's) so we were on the field daily. We got a free balloon ride for 1-1/2 hours and other perks. We also got free entrance all day long and we were free to come and go. We had free shuttles from our motorhome door with very friendly school bus drivers. We dry camped and will last 12 days without dumping. However, there is a pump out service and a water fill service. We even got the morning paper delivered daily at our door - free.
Yes, you have to time yourself for the traffic. There are 600 balloon pilots, their crew of 10 or so, and tens of thousands attending the Fiesta. We expected traffic. However, the roads were open both directions after the morning ascension until approximately 3:30. We were able to do local things and have a late lunch in a restaurant and therefore didn't need dinner. It didn't inconvenience us at all.
We were with a group of 40 RVs with the Escapee Club members. We paid $275 for 12 nights which we thought was an awesome price.
Your experience is why we would never do a tour for anything. Hope you return some day!
