Faucet valves- Stem and bonnet

Hi folks-

The kitchen sink in our TT began leaking (running a slight bit of water) last season when the hot/cold water knobs ware both off.

I'm thinking I need to start by replacing the valves, or stem and bonnet in the faucet.

They are not hard to find, but can someone tell me how to figure out what kind of faucet I have so I can order the correct repair parts?

For example, I see them advertised for Utopia, Phoenix, etc- how do I know which I need to get, or are they universal? Thanks

  • Others may differ but my faucet is the kind used in Mobile Homes and going to the regular hardware did not find a replacement. I had to go to a store (Sutherlands) that carried mobile home units.

I agree that the washer is easier to fix than replacing the faucet if you can find the right washer ;)
  • If your valve is like mine, it's probably got a plain old rubber washer to seal it. This is fairly easy to ascertain; if it has two knobs and they turn more than a quarter turn to go from off to full on, that's the kind it is.

If so, water leaking from the spigot indicates that the main washer is leaking and needs replacement, and/or the valve seat is scuzzed up or irregular and needs cleaning/refacing. A leaky stem or bonnet would result in water leaking out around the knobs when the faucet is turned on.

Getting a replacement faucet washer should not be a difficult task, as BB_TX says. Replacing it with a better unit is not inherently hard to do and also a very good option, though access to do so may be tight.
  • If you prefer not to change the faucet, just take the stem and bonnet to the hardware store. They will match it to the correct part(s) for you. If you have a decent hardware store nearby, they will have a large rack of those kind of parts. Preferably a real hardware store, not a big box store.
  • I'd go to the local hardware store and replace the whole thing with a household one. You'll probably hear that answer more than once.
  • Welcome to RV.net!
I would not waste money replacing stems and seats.
Suggest going to local hardware store and getting anew faucet.
Measure your faucet, it should be a standard 4 inch unit.

Edit; The kitchen should be 8 inches on center.
