Agree 100%. The problem/risk for dragging brakes and not realizing it is more significant with a large MH towing a small car. Reason being, the towed vehicle (car) is sooo tiny in comparison to the towing vehicle (MH), you can be dragging brakes pretty badly and not really feel it in the MH. Like you indicated, there have been several cases where this has caused brakes to be badly burned leading to very costly repairs, at best.
The question of whether or not to trust the electronics of my brake buddy is clear I Don't! I am a newbie and have never towed a dinghy before in my life but at 55 I have accumulated enough life experience to understand the need for redundancy in systems that help insure the safety of my family and others.
You and me both! I also do not trust ANY supplemental brake system to tell me when brakes are engaged or not! I prefer an indicator that is independant of the supplemental brake system. And, I don't even use an electronic brake system, mine is a mechanical linkage (Readybrake, which I highly, highly recommend, BTW).
