We all know that there are three things that cause a tire to blow - overweight, age, and heat. Some think the make too.
That might be your opinion, but I don't consider those individually as significant factors. I would put Road Hazards, Speed, Overloading as the three main causes of tire failure. While age is a consideration I personally think with good inspections tire can go 8 to 9 years if they have been taken care of and you haven't subjected them to any of the 3 major factors I mentioned. IMO something most folks don't realize is that hitting a SINGLE SIGNIFIACANT pothole like on a lot of interstates can compromise our tires to the point of making tire failure assured in short order. This is especially important because of the small reserve capacity we generally see in TT tires. I didn't underinflation, overweight causing excessive heat since it is a combination of those items IMO that make up my category of overloading a tire. You also have to throw in there failure to replace both tires on the side of a tandem axle trailer when one tire has failed since you have probably significantly overloaded the non failed tire on that side and compromised it's reliability to the point it should be considered "FAILED" also. I will go as far as using my spare as a replacement for that questionable tire if it hasn't already been subjected to significant negative safety/reliability related factors.
