Friend of mine had one of those propane fire pits. I thought it was really great until her dog got excited, ran around the pit, and overturned it. Fortunately, no fire, but killed my desire to buy one of them.I can be careful, but when you get a bunch of people with kids and pets at your site, you can't always control everyone else.
I have never had a fire at my site. I am usually by myself. I am not real big on sitting outside the camper. If it is daylight, I am usually on the trails. If it is dark, I'm usually in bed.
