It's basically impossible to high hitch a B&W hitch unless you're blind. If you don't put the pin in the hitch, the jaws won't close and lock. They can't close and lock around the lower part of the pin as it's too big. If you put the hitch on top of the jaws they won't close and lock, and the trailer is sitting up about 3" above the hitch which would be pretty noticeable.
Yeah we've all heard that from a XXX brand and then it was the ZZZ brand that couldn't be hi pinned.
However, I'm not sayin' this is what went down in the OP case.
I see another RV person on another web dropped his trailer also just like this one went down.
The hitch was inspected for a mechanical malfunction and showed nothing was broke. The dealer service tech and hitch mfg service tech both told the owner he was high pinned from the marks on top of the jaws. He also didn't believe his brand jaw type could be high pinned..... simply because he had never seen it happen.
