I'm not posting this to be combative but my understanding is hitch was closed jaws secured around pin everything done correctly.
Jaws unexplainably opened.
Pin came loose from hitch. You were able to get things stopped.
Jaws closed themselves somehow and were in the closed position after once you came to a stop.
So in effect jaws open themselves as you were traveling, released trailer pin and then closed themselves again?
