Don't forget this is a very new owner of 5th wheel, hitch, and tow vehicle, so things could happen that wouldn't happen to a more experienced owner...perhaps.
Some time back a poster said he dropped his trailer on his bed while using a B&W hitch. Lots of discussion about how that could happen until he came back and said he had locked the handle in the open position and forgotten to unlock it.
FWIW I have tried to hitch up to my B&W at an angle and the handle closed part way, but not all the way. I could have forced it closed and locked the handle with the pin. I have no idea what would happen, if the trailer would stay in the hitch or immediately slip out. But I knew from experience with the hitch that it hadn't locked in place and pulled out and re-aligned and hooked up correctly.
