I have a B&W ..there is no possible way this happened unless the pin broke off or the safety pin or lock was not in place on the lever. Ok so lets say the lever closed while high pined...it would have slid off the jaws in no time my guess on the first pull. OR the op didn't see the plates were mated up and it stayed there? There is 3 and 1/8 inches between the bottom of the pin and the top of the jaws. Only two other ways that I can think of.... that a jaw or jaws broke off or the wedge and pin failed that hold the jaws closed ...Pictures everyone and I'm not jumping to any conclusion but you look at this closely:
I'm just giving you all a closer look at how this hitch works and it is a no brainer...granted if you left the pin out of the lever it could possibly shake itself loose but it does have a preloaded spring that keeps it closed...not much but it does stay there when you back into the pin. Well we will see... you know $$$$hit happens and I would like to know since I have this hitch...I'm not convinced myself it is the hitch. In MHO..it is the best build of anything I have used or seen...not a hitch war here only the people that put this together have a well thought out design and I'm anxious to know what happened. Trolling? All of us who have this hitch know better.. question this...do planes crash? Yes. Why? well usually 1 of two things...mechanical failure or pilot error. Tick tock I'm waiting to hear the evidence. One more thing...if you do spread the lever arm to it's full open position... Which is under spring load in that direction....you can put the pin in that full open hole to keep it there. It holds the jaws even further open. Not sure why that option is there..you could back into the hitch but the lever won't close if you have it blocked full open with the pin in and it is no way locked to travel. One pull and your rig will fall...there is no way it would stay in the hitch.
