So what are you going to add to keep the latch from coming loose? Or doesn't catch the arm in the first place? Another latch to latch the first latch which latches the arm if you don't put the pin in?
At some point you just have to realize you can't protect against every eventuality. If that arm snaps back you're hitched, and the trailer won't come loose until the arm is pulled forward again. I drove off once when I forgot to put the pin in, and drove for a mile or more with no ill effects. When I remembered, I stopped and put the pin in place. No harm, no foul.
