If that's true about the jaws on the B&W it is a poor design. Failures are few and far between so it obviously isn't a significant issue, but I am a fan of things that are designed to be in their default position while in use without relying on a latch or other mechanical part that could fail. A good analogy would be the emergency exit doors on an airliner - unlatch them while in flight and nothing will happen because they're held in place against the door frames by pressure.
