Fix this b4 private sell?

2015 Sunseeker 2500TS Class C, 19000 miles.  We intend to sell privately.

Basically, everything is in excellent shape.  Except the entertainment hub, original from the factory.  It is dead.   Not the TVs, just the unit in the dash.
Do you think it’s better and quicker to sell “as is”, or spend close to $2000 for a new unit with all the advances since 2014 before listing?   Or a cheaper replacement.

  • Ok, I’m back.  Good responses, thanks to all.  For now, I’m going with StirCrazy, and will first list with no entertainment hub, up front.  I’ll see.  When I say this RV is unusually sound, I mean it.
Stored sheltered out of the PNW rain, (has cost a bunch),  so it looks new.  I know that’s not the last word, but I’ll start there.

      Oh good.
Taking the do nothing approach and running with it….love it. A true sign of real motivation!  Guess all one needs is for someone to justify what they want to hear…..glad StirCrazy told you what you wanted to hear!

  • I’ll bet $20 ole Olyboots don’t come back.
what was said above is correct. If it’s cherry then it’s a turnoff for something as simple and relatively inexpensive like basically replacing a dead car stereo.
if it’s a bomber, who cares.
If it’s me buying it, don’t fix the stereo, I’ll tell you it’s a $4k issue because now I don’t know if the speakers work too. Yoo think it’s $2k but too cheap to fix it and hopefully I get $3k off the price and go home and slap a $300 head unit in it.

  • What's the market price if it was fixed? I'm not sure what they are going for or what the condition is otherwise.

     - If it's a $50k rig, $2k may be worth it because the folks buying $50k rigs expect everything to be in good working order and may want to knock off 20% ($10k) for a rig with problems (some of which they may not know about).

     - If it's a $10k rig, there is more of an expectation, there will be some issues, so if it's not a major functional problem, it's likely not going to be a major hit on selling prices.

  • some times it is tough to know which way to go.  for myself I would rather see the unit priced properly and another 2000 off if it goes with the bad entertainment hub, that way the other guy thinks he is getting a deal if he gets a cheaper one, or he is paying proper price if he replaces it with the right one.  for you , your not out the extra money or time to do it.

if you put a cheep one in and list it, even if the price reflects that, you may get that guy that would have bought it if it had the proper one.  trust me a lot know what should be in their because like me if they are going to look at something, they have done the research and know what they like and don't like already and where to look for common issues.  if its joe off the street and just sees it driving by you could get Luckey that way.

then the third option in this economy with the price of used rv's rapidly taking a nose dive is it worth it to you to spend that extra 2000 bucks and possibly not recoup it?

what I would do, is show it as is with the price reflecting the dead entertainment center, then let them know how much it is to fix it properly and where, and have another option for them.  say find a 500 buck replacement and present that as an option they could do to save a bit of money, but they might be missing this feature and that feature.  have a list of the differences and let them decide.  if they think its to much of a job to handle, then you could have the option of having it done after they put a non refundable deposit down for the price of the work.. that way if they back out you are not out the money for the replacement.

  • My opinion, get a cheaper replacement that's close to OEM. You'll never get your money out of a high end head unit, but as a buyer I'd be turned off it didn't have one that works. Its less about the entertainment and more about buyers questioning what else is wrong with the RV you didn't fix.
