I have not yet found in any resource if when towing this rig I need to have the key in the on position to prevent steering wheel lock.?? If so can any one suggest a battery disconect switch?

There is no steering lock on the 12 and not the first year without it, so no key or battery disconnect required for anything. If you want to get technical though, I have a Cooltech wiring harness on our Jeep and even have a battery disconnect, that we never use. With the READYBRAKE surge system, the signals quit working momentarily when the brakes on the toad are being applied, but this is intermittent and not a problem, IMO. I said the toad and not necessarily with braking the coach unless this causes the Jeep to catch up with it and stay against the hitch ass'y.
  • NO... Direct from a Jeep Engineer.

It's easy enough to test as well. See if you can turn the steering wheel with the key out. Yes it's a grunt but doable.
  • I was under the impression that the 2012 Jeeps do not have a steering lock. If this is true, there is no need to leave the ignition in the ON or ACCESSORY position, so there should be no battery drain.
My '06 has an "OFF, not locked" switch position, so I have to leave the key in the switch, but nothing is on.
Put your front axle on jack stands, turn the ignition OFF, and try to turn the wheel lock to lock. If you can, there is no steering lock, and you do not have to leave the switch on. If the steering locks, then you probably have to get a battery disconnect. You can find them at any auto parts store.
    Good luck.
