If you want a decent inexpensive vehicle to tow, that can carry quite a few people, pets, or supplies, a 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR is a great toad. They can be towed 4 down with an automatic transmission and all you have to do is pull one fuse. I installed a switch to bypass the fuse when I tow. All it takes is a light kit and a tow bracket and you are good to go. I had diodes installed on mine so it just uses the existing tail lights and brake lights. It is very light so you don't really know it is back there.
