Flat towing jeep behind TT

Around here I frequently see double tows in which both trailers are a ball hitch.
I don't recall ever seeing a vehicle as the second trailer, though, but I have seen some pretty big boats and ATV trailers!
Just remember, there are some states that require the first trailer to be a fifth wheel hitch, and Reciprocity Agreements probably do not apply. Be sure you don't go somewhere that the rig would be illegal!

I am assuming you have a bumper pull TT. I did pull a small boat behind mine for many years with no problems but never traveled more that 100 miles from home. My Jeep is about 4000# and I think that would be a little much behind a TT.

I see this done with a 5th wheel all the time and don't think that would be a problem.

I would not be towing the jeep on a trailer behind the TT, I would be flat towing it with a tow bar kit like what you see behind a motor home.

I dont think it will be an issue, pulling this set up with my diesel truck

As long as all your travels are in a straight line.
I think cornering would put a lot of strain on the whole setup. Behind a MH is quite a bit different than behind a TT or even 5er. Now on a Dolly or Flat Bed trailer might be better as it would give more of a pivot point.
I have given thoughts to towing something behind our 5er, but have so far decided against it.
It's your toys, so you have to made the decision.

Tim, I don't think the OP said anything about towing the jeep on a trailer...in fact he specifically states 4 down towing.

I think my concern here with this procedure would be the trailer's frame strength. Towing 4000 lbs could put undo stress on it causing it to twist or bend. Another would be the GCVWR of the tow vehicle; but I'm not sure what his Dodge would be, so this may be a moot point.

Flat towing a vehicle works well and is totally dependent on the "A" frame tow bar staying horizontal especially under braking as the vehicle under tow has no brakes. The rear of a tow vehicle remains at a fairly constant height above the road, not so with the rear of a trailer and I can see problems under emergency braking if the road is bumpy.

Only concern would be the trailer frame strength. If it's a Lippert frame I'd say don't risk it.

This can and should be easily overcome by using a toad brake system like a brake buddy. No way this should be attempted without a supplemental braking system.

As long as they take a look at the trailer frame and reinforce it anywhere they think it would be weak, you should be fine. I have towed a 5000 pound boat behind my 5er for over 10 years now without any problems.

My understanding is that flat towing behind a travel trailer is hard on the front end of the vehicle. The reasoning is that as the trailer follows the turn the rear end swings in the opposite direction. The vehicle being towed 4 down is pulled in two different directions. The front wheels scrub pretty hard. This doesn't affect trailers as the second towed vehicle because their only point of contact is the middle axles.

As far as can it be done sure. I've seen plenty of CJs and TJs flat towed behind fivers and tts. If it were my Jeep I'd tow it on a trailer to save the front end and not have to add brakes.
