Florida - Koreshan State Historic Site

Just had a call about a volunteer opportunity at Koreshan State Historic Site near Fort Myers, FL. Wondering if anyone has been there or has any information about it.

We've volunteered in Florida State Parks in years past but took a few years off.
  • Spent a lot of time volunteering there. It was one of the best places we ever worked. Don't know about now. parks change with different managers.
  • Found out we will be serving as 'Docents" in the historic area of the park. Doing lots of reading on background of Cyrus Teed and his settlement. Sounds like it will be an interesting winter for us.
  • We've stayed there three times. I'd say it's typical of FL parks nearby (Oscar Scherer and Myakka River). If you like small, laid back, not much to do in the park but relax, you will probably like it. If you boat, you can put in at the park ramp and get to Estero Bay easily.
  • When we were "weekend" campers, (We full time now) this was our "home" park as it was just 20 minutes from our house. Camped there for over 35 years and literally hundreds of times.

It is a gorgeous park. On the Estero river, with the Koreshan settlement and all the history that is there, is right next door and accessible from the park.

Lots of shopping with a large shopping center within two miles of the park.

It is a smaller park, only one restroom to clean. As experienced Florida State Park host, I think it would be a pleasant assignment.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.
