Bob, that happened for us also. We knew the roof was old and we knew it was coming for a replacement. didn't like the idea of spending the money tho :) so we waited a bit more and BOOM, a big hail storm hit us also.
called ins. co. and they checked and yes that hail storm did major damage to the roof and we got it covered also.
OP, stay safe!! I hope you get thru easily. BIG storms are scary for a reason so just take care of yourself!
