Florida. The Sunshine State?
Unless you consider rain as liquid sunshine! Lately it's been dreary with periods of rain. If not raining, many days have lots of clouds. I think the designation "sunshine state" should go to Arizona....

It is a nickname, supported by historical records of days per year with sunshine. Weather changes during the day, much of the state has rain on many of those sunny days. Florida also has highest density of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and tornadoes, not useful for promotional mottos.
