Flying to Yellowstone

We are going to YNP this summer and due to time restrictions our DD & SIL will have to fly up to join us. Just checking prices to Jackson! Even this far out, tickets are approx $1200 for both round trip! I've not flown a lot so am wondering if it would be less if the flew to another airport in the area...I will do some more pricing, but am just wondering, as a rule of thumb, are all prices on same airline going to be approx the same? TIA!
  • Allegiant flies into Idaho Falls. I book the DW on a flight from Vegas to Idaho Falls, leave early in the morning, and drive straight through to pick her up at the airport if I'm not towing. It saves her a 12 hour ride, and with no luggage I can get her in for about $50. Just an idea.
  • Idaho Falls should be much cheaper. It's a 2 hour drive from there to W. Yellowstone. I did a quick look and assuming you are flying from Dallas and picking a random week in July, fares were as low as $377. Major airlines are United, American and US Air.
  • Don't forget Idaho Falls, Id. Not far over the pass to JH. I would check all airports within reasonable driving distance.

We flew into SLC back in June of 2010 and rented an RV from Access RV for a week. Drove it to Yellowstone and it was awesome. It was a small 22-23' Class C and I could park it anywhere. Stayed in a couple different campgrounds and was really a great way to see Yellowstone since I never had to leave the park.

make it an airport that has competition in the route that they will take. if no competition, you will pay a premium.

  • Prices can vary a lot for different airlines, different days, different times, number of connections, etc. Billings would be cheaper, but farther away. Salt Lake City would be cheaper still, but even farther away.

I never use travel agents, but using one in this case would be helpful in finding all your options.
