Flying/TSA with artifical knee

Ok, I know this isn't RV related but figured this would be a good place to ask this question. Almost two years out on knee replacement and was thinking about taking a diving vacation. Haven't flown since having the knee replaced. I assume that my titanium wonder will set off the metal detector. Do they wand me or take me in the little room for a strip search?
  • Thanks for the responses. I didn't get a card from the ortho. Guess I should give them a call. Just thought about it and I also have a small pin in my shoulder from a rebuild. Oh well, fun time at the airport.
  • Ditto on the TSA search. No problem at all. Just tell them you have an artificial knee and they will wand you and pat you down in a special area. Wear loose clothing and slip on shoes. Just cooperate and listen to their instructions. Your personal belongings will be put by your side if you are alone. I have an ID card from my ortho doctor that shows what the knee looks like and right or left knee.
  • It will be easier if you have the card they gave you. Or are supposed to gve you when you when joint is replaced.
  • I do it all the time. If you go through the metal detector, you will indeed set it off. Either a pat down of your knee or just a wanding. If you go through the body scanner, it won't pick it up and nothing happens. I always tell the TSA folks that I have a artificial knee.
