I didn't read this whole thread. But, the idea of different vehicles sharing the road and some of them are "restricted" to different speeds is a stupid one. This is part of the mess we had in the late 80's with that stupid 55 mph limit. I will not be going to CA and become part of that mess.
Some states have a speed limit that says as long as you are going a safe speed for conditions then you are fine. (Under the maximum limit of course). Those states have their **** together.
In MN we have the same speed limit for every vehicle. Ever since the stupid 55 mph thing was canceled the state has been doing a good job of deciding which roads can handle different speeds. We are doing just fine here. No problems with people wondering how fast they should go.
So enlighten us...what is this speed for everyone that is safe for everyone?
It depends on the highway you are on. Back country roads with narrow shoulders and many entrance points are limited to 55. Wider state roads with fewer entrance points can go 60. Four lane road with very few entrance points are 65. Inter sates are 70.
Some of this is a little low.
In South Dakota most roads are 65 and interstates are 80. Sixty Five on more of the roads in MN would be a good idea. However, not for all of them. But, 80 on the interstate seems a little high. Seventy Five would be better.
OK...those speeds are for vehicles not towing right?
Unless you think it's OK and safe to pull a RV at 75-80 mph then I don't want to be anywhere near you on any road.
Safe travels...hopefully.
