Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish who is the bigger idiot though…
Is it the rolling road block, the guy tailgating the bigger vehicle, or the guy that would risk the lives of his own family and anyone else around him to get ahead of the road block…
I’ll go along with commonsense and even pulling off the road for a break, but if the road conditions are what is causing the slower traffic pulling off may not help, grin and bear it comes to mind…
Many states do have and more are adopting keep right laws, and most are pretty ambiguous, this mostly by intent… they may require you to pull right if there is faster moving traffic, but always only when safe to do so (a judgment call), and almost none require the slower vehicle to pull off the road to accomplish this… even when some of the laws say turn-off it is meant to turn-off onto a turn-out or improved berm… a highway turn-out is an added or widened section of the road for this purpose, not a parking lot or commercial business…
Most are even ambiguous in the speed portion of the law… while they may use language like may not drive a motor vehicle at a speed slow enough to impede or block traffic, or define impediment as driving slower than the normal and reasonable movement of traffic… there will also almost always be language addressing exceptions such as slower speed is necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle (another judgment call) or operation in compliance with the laws…
If stopped giving the right answers can make all the difference…
These laws are especially liked by those that would continually drive above legal posted speed laws and can now use safety as an excuse for their violations and they commonly promote speeding as a safety issue… when in fact they are still in violation of the speed laws when driving with the flow of traffic if that speed is above the posted maximum speed…
