A torque wrench (no matter what the length reads in ft/lbs), meaning the reading on the wrench is calibrated as if the handle is only 1 ft. long...an offset bar added to the wrench drive end, not the handle (check the example in the link) that is 12" long will cause a reading of 150 ft/lb when the actual torque is 300 ft/lb...at a 24 " distance, the wrench will read 75 ft/lb and the actual torque will be 300 ft/lb...without the torque wrench, put 150 lbs. of pressure at the 24 in point of the breaker bar, and the rotational force (torque) will be 300 ft/lb.
