Ford C-Max Plug-in Hybrid

I realize that both variations of C-Max can be 4-wheel towed. I'm wondering if it is worth getting the plug-in variety instead of the conventional hybrid. Do camping sites let you charge the car overnight? Has anyone tried charging similar vehicles in places like National Parks?
  • That so called Tax Incentive isn't such a bargain as far as Im concerned!

It has about as much real value as the Old Convert Your Car to run on Cheap Propane did! When Propane was 39 cents a gallon and Regular Gas was $ 1.50 it sure seemed like a great idea. Then once the numbers of Propane powered Vehicles hit an acceptable level ,they imposed a Road Tax and Propane was suddenly as much as gas!

In BC which has abundant Hydro Electric Power Plants they have advised every customer that the Electricity will cost 28 % More in a couple of Years! Ha that's more than likely going to be 100% more and there will most certainly be Road Taxes added to those that have Plug In Cars!

Anything's possible when trying to predict future energy prices, I'll give you that, but it's a fair bet they aren't going down. Right now my electric car costs me the equivalent of 41 cents per litre. Remember those days? They aren't coming back.

If it's a choice between i) expensive gas today that is going to continue to get more expensive, and ii) electricity that costs 3 tenths as much as gas and *may* go up significantly, I'll take my chances with electricity thank you very much.
  • Acei, very timely question. We just purchased (actually leased) a 2014 C-Max Energi. We will plug in at home on 110V and will do the same as we tow the car. The overnight plug-in (recharging) will take about 6 hours. We do not anticipate any problems at campgrounds. We will be towing four wheels down. Next week we will have the base plate and towing package installed. It is a very nice car.
  • Did any of you that had your C-Max rigged to be towed find that the installer had to cut into the grill for any of the work?

Yes, the Blue Ox baseplate needs some cutting on the lower grill. See the installation here Video.
  • The video was very informative. Our Blue Ox plate will be installed next week on our 2014 C-Max Energi. Yes, we knew that the front grill was going to be cut.
