Ford Edge, Honda CRV or Jeep Cherokee, which to tow?

Brian, we just bought a 2014 CRV 4WD thru Costco for $22,500.00 I have never owned a Edge (my next door neighbor owns one, he does not tow his and really likes his Edge). I did consider the Jeep Compass that might be my next choice if Honda doesn't change there transmission later on down the road. I bought the CRV (I've owned a Honda before) and it's hard to beat there steering (McFearson/Strut) front end. They steer way better than a Toyota! The CRV is also very roomy and light weight. I just bought mine during the Honda sale that is going on. The non towable 2015 CRV are in so there clearing out the towable 2014. Good Luck with your new tow care Brian!

Supercub, those are all nice vehicles. And, I agree with the others, get a 4wd if you buy a Jeep for resale. Also, it just might come in handy for you too.

I really like our Honda CR-V AWD. I'm disappointed that the new 2015 CR-V can't be towed four down. I'll most likely keep our Honda 6 yeas like I did with our other CR-V and will probably go to a Jeep or maybe a Cadillac SRX (if they don't change the towable feature).

On a another site, some RV people have found that the new Suburban is not towable like their previous one unless you cut off the power to the battery as the steering column now has a lock on it.

Yes, it can be towed with the active drive II system that features a 2 speed transfer case. The caveat is, of course, that it have the transfer case with a neutral setting or whatever they call it.

It is if you get Active Drive II. As long as it has transfer case with Neutral, you can tow it.

We have been very happy towing our Ford Edge which is also our family car. Our friends tow a CRV and we have ridden in it a couple times. I like our Edge better. That said I have to add that I wanted a Grand Cherokee, but it was too heavy for me to tow. I would certainly have considered the four wheel drive Cherokee, but it had not gone on the market yet.

We just went through the same process that you are going through. Same three choices and we went with the 2014 Honda CR-V with AWD. Much better resale value with AWD rather than FWD. So far we are happy with the Honda and think we made the correct choice. Only time will tell.

While I prefer a Jeep anyday, if you're going to get a 2WD model it would be a waste of money since the resale on a 2WD Jeep in horrible...nobody wants them.

I would go with the Ford but the CRV is a great choice also.

Just don't desecrate a Jeep by going 2WD.
