Ford F-250 Hitch compatibilty

Hello, I have to upgrade from a 2" to a 2.5" hitch for my 2003 F-250 so I can buy the right hitch extension. I'm looking for an OEM used hitch, does anyone know what years were compatible? Has been hard to find out on the internet. Some after market hitches say 99-23 but thats for after market. I see others possibly saying 99-2015 and 2016-2023. Any help would be appreciated
  • ^Not being that guy, just providing info, quick CL search in my typical 300mi radius area, “Ford hitch” for sale by owner had 262 results. Didn’t go thru them all but in less than 1 minute, saw 2 ea 2.5” takeoff OE receivers but one was from a 2017. And one full on Torklift setup off a 99 Sooper Doody, including the super truss.
That’s where my suggestion came from. Plus if the OP lives anywhere where pick n pull junkyards are still a thing, any F250/350 in the appropriate age range that didn’t get rear ended when it got totaled will have one hanging off the back, quite likely.
But I do agree with you as well, if $400 gets a new hitch shipped to his door, then that easy button may be the best button to press.

In New York, yeah all the older ones are probably half rusted thru boat anchors by now.
And based on Miguel’s location, San Diego probably doesn’t allow u pick ‘em junk yards. Known to cause cancer in the state of California or something as equally silly as why they don’t have em around here anymore either.
  • IMHO etrailer does their homework and the information they provide can be trusted. You can also never go wrong with Reese (Cequent) products. I got the Reese Titan for my 2002 Chevy almost 14 years ago now and it was a perfect fit, has "YES" capacity...

Etrailer has a draw-tite (also Cequent) 2-1/2" hitch that looks and mounts very much like my Reese Titan.

Not a huge market out there for receivers for 21-year-old pickups anymore, so your choices are pretty limited. I would fork over the $403.24 and not look back, except to hitch up.

I just don't know where you'd go to find a good used take-off anyway. Nobody takes them off. You could be months or years looking.
  • RJ tractor-agree just going to look for a new one. Thanks for the response
  • I found a new DrawTite 2.5" hitch on eTrailer.com for about 400 bucks that fits your truck. I wouldn't screw around looking for an OEM used hitch, but it's your $$
  • And don’t trust aftermarket fitment specs. At least without being more knowledgeable. They could be drilled/able to be mounted in different configurations depending on model/year.
  • You’re startin a lot of conversations for the same thing. Think I already answered this to the best of my knowledge although all you need to do is go find a newer Super Doody and bring a tape measure.
To repeat, the SD frames were essentially the same through 2016 models. Being a SD guy, you know 2017 was basically an all new truck stem to stern?
But I’ve never directly compared so can’t say for sure it would be a no-drill application, however quite likely it’s bolt n go.
This is like your other conundrum. Judicious use of a measuring tool will provide you many answers to your questions.
