2,250/.20 (pin weight loaded, generally) gives you a 5th of 11,250. If you don't heavily load the trailer, look for one with a lower than 20% pin weight, you should be able to go 12,000 GVWR on the trailer.
You might want to get a new weighing, just to be sure.
My DRW weighed with full fuel and DW and I, plus some cargo, 8500lbs. 500lbs doesn't sound like a whole bunch, but when you consider 2,250+500=2,750. 2,750/.20 = 13,750. That gives you a lot more trailer.
Maybe you just carry a lot more than the rest of us (and don't try to kid yourself, good for you). Or maybe the weighing was incorrect. Think about it.
