Free Wi-Fi??

IMO, if a facility is advertising free Wi Fi then it should be campground/ RV park wide, not just at the check in building. It should be of high enough quality / speed to offer quick service even if the facility is full and everyone is on the internet.
With the cost of staying in a park climbing the services provided should too. I should not have to go to the "office" to get on line and then deal with "dial up" speeds.

My experience on our cross country trip earlier this year was across the board.

Some campgrounds had unlimited wifi throughout the campground. Others could only supply wifi in a central area. Still others had nothing any where.

At a KOA in Fredricksburg, TX, the wifi was down all 3 nights we were there.

I did a blog while on our 7900 mile trip to the Pacific ocean and return. Sometimes I'd be off line 5 or 6 days before getting wifi again.

We stayed at one just a few weeks ago in Milton WI, it was over $50/night, it may have been Tengo net. We tonight about leaving but it had been a long day. The one hour turned out not to be a problem because they put us in the low rent area and we couldn't connect anyway. We just fell back to our iPad hotspot again. We stayed at another place that had satellite network, because of their location, and they had a limit on the number of devices (2) and asked us to keep the data use in check because of the limit bandwidth. No real problem there, since we are not data hogs anyway.

We stayed at a campground in Port Townsend WA over the fourth and were told that they didn't provide iwifi anymore,but that there was a local company that did and I paid $20 for a week service. Finally got online,very slow, and kept getting off and having to sign on again. Finally called tech and found hat I could only use one piece of equipment at a time. Oh fun.... Two tablets,two smartphones and a lap top and you had to make sure all were signed off before using another. We stayed at the park for four nites and then moved over to Fort Worden for another three and guess what,no service there. I called and found out that they only had service at certain areas and not all over town. Stopped in at Point Hudson and told the manager about my experience and he said that he would pass it up farther in the port system as he didn't know about the one device rule either.

We've run into this in Arizona and Michigan etc. Seems there is a n outfit that installs their equipment and the camp ground doesn't have to do anything.
We had to log in and give a credit card. We paid for a week one time and then a day or a few hours.You pay by the day or by the hour, in one case. They make a fortune. Only time we used in Arizona was to pay bills. If we were headed to casa Grande or Tucson area we went to a MCDonlds etc and even a Wal Mart parking lot. We now have MIfi but haven't traveled with it much to see what problems there might be.

Name the campground.....

We stayed at Mountain Stream RV Park in Marion, NC a couple years ago. Upon checking in, the lady went over all the rules with me and then handed me a list of them. She then asked me if we were going to use internet. I told her we might. She handed me a paper with a username and password. They were specific to my site. She then told me to not go on facebook, youtube or watch any movies on it because they use satellite internet and its tied into their business computers. And if too much bandwidth is used, then their ISP will shut it off for 24 hrs, thus affecting their business computers. What a sorry way to run a business. Why would you even tie your business computers in with this? Just don't offer internet. Or even better, set up a computer in the office and block everything you don't want people to do. We never even bothered with it. Staying there was the worse camping experience we've ever experienced. And it all had to do with the people running it. Was a pretty little park, such a shame.

We just last week stayed at a different CG in Milton Wi or we paid less way less than $50 a night (P A). Theirs was 2 hrs and then log on again. Not a big deal for overnight usage. Their system didn't show up as a Tengo site, more like an ad-on thing.
FREE wifi is open to many different ideas of what it means. ie available all over the park, only in office or rec room, one bar one some sites and 5 bars on others, limited access for 1 or 2 hours, or something else.
While internet access is kind of cheap (maybe) for the home user, that is not true for a CG or business. To provide enough bandwidth for 50 or 100 sites means maybe multiple routers etc. Also, it usually means having someone come out to support it when necessary.

Point is don't advertise free wifi if you don't have it. Bait and switch has a long tradition.

Free? I don't get this 'free wifi at campground' thing. It's not FREE, you paid for it. If you don't get your water or whatever else is part of your campground rental, do you say nothing?

I seldom go to campgrounds, but when I do..if it's listed, I am ensuring it's useable and if not, I ask for either a fee change or I leave. hahaaha..listen to me...I only ever pay for one pace and that's in Brookings, Oregon.
