I use the typical white hose and inline filter others have mentioned, seems fine to me. Maybe you are just overly sensitive to whatever those hoses are made from or the filtering elements(charcoal??)..can I suggest bottled water for drinking.
As for storing the hose...some of you responding have fancy arrangements. I simply cut down a five gallon bucket so that it easily goes in the front pass-thru storage compartment. The hose is coiled into this 1/2 bucket, and stays put.
