I do the same thing but I cut a 25' hose in half and put ends on both halves. My unit has the water hookup in the basement so I leave one hose hooked up and coiled in the basement. If I need more length, I add the other half. I also carry an additional hose if I need even more length.
If the OP is having problems with smell and taste using different potable water hoses, he should start by sanitizing the tank and the rest of the water system.
