Fresh water question

I have looked for info on this and it almost always leads to the topic of sanitizing fresh water tank.... My question is specifically.. How long do most of you leave your fresh water in your tank before emptying and refilling to maintain the freshness? .... I am sure the answers will be widely varied but I am just looking for a good middle ground on this...is it advisable to treat with a commercially available chemical for fresh water at every fill or is this overkill?

  • Likewise. I think the water in the tanks is quite safe, especially if I filled it at home. I do find that after perhaps a week there's a bit of tank-taste, so I'll usually dump it and refill.
  • Sanitize with bleach if you want. In 12 years we have never sanitized and we drink water straight from the tank(city or campground water). We always use up the water by the end of our trips so water is not left in the tank. If water is left in the tank for a long period it would most likely develop a plastic taste. Do what makes you feel comfortable but don't get silly about it and turn into a germaphobe.
