You might be onto something there. The Fire Marshall said not to touch anything until the arson investigator gets there, but he pointed to where the top of the big tube that runs up the back of the fridge ruptured. Overheated. He said it could have been because of the fire or the CAUSE of the fire.
If he saw it soon enough with what you are describing it would have looked like a blowtorch
