When I did a search on GOOGLE I found several articles about RV fires at gas pumps... Most said a spark from the LP systems set them off.
I run my fridge on 12VDC when in travel mode and usually only when we are about two hours away from our planed stop. Keeping the fridge door closed works for us...

I've never shut off the propane to travel. Of course I fuel at the diesel pumps.
