As someone has already said,they are not designed to run on a battery for the long run,just for start up and programing or in case of power loss.
They are designed to have 12V power ether hard wired or plugin.
I have mine set to loop every 10 minutes,a 16 g card will hold about 1 hr 45 min before over writing.
I keep mine plugged in while in motion and unplug when stopped,my 12v plug is hot all the time. Some have a plug in that is activated by the key an even better way to do it is to hard wire it to the ignition so it comes on when the RV is started.
