It is hardwired in and/or uses a power socket plug. It uses a standard cell phone connector on the camera end. The Camera needs to be plugged into power to work for anytime beyond a few minutes.
I use a 32G mirosd card and use the 720 instead of the 1080 HD setting. I can get 8 hours of 10 minute loops and each file is named with the date and time of the recording so you can go to the exact time of an event. 720 is still good enough resolution to see license plates.
It has G-Force auto save of the most recent recording in case of an accident.
You would have to burn the vehicle to destroy the microsd card in a crash.
It does have audio but all you mostly hear is yourself talking and tire noise. You do not hear anything from the outside of the car except the Border patrol person asking you if you are a US citizen.
I dropped one of mine on the cement and broke the back view screen but the camera still records and provides good pictures. It just makes it almost impossible to change any settings without the back view screen.
