Been that way around here for a long time, cash means cash, no matter what brand is on the station.
Ditto -
Some stations will post cash and CC price.
Some charge a flat fee for using a Debit Card whether you spend $20 or $200. Local station here, is $1.50 per transaction.
OP - welcome to the real world!
Why should a fuel station pay 2% on *YOUR* purchase to a CC company?
(Unless they jack up the price for everyone to cover it).

BTW - a debit card is your worst enemy.
Research skimmers.
Gas stations were being hit without the knowledge of the operators. ALL the pump access doors are/were opened with the same key! Like RV compts. Easy for bad guys to insert the skimmer.
Got caught by surveillance cameras.
Perps would clone the CC numbers and pins.
Use for purchases *AND* large quantities of gas (to aux tanks) for a day or two - then on to new cards.
Fraud on *Credit* cards is routinely covered by the CC companies.
Most states also limit card holder's liability (CA is $50)
Fraud coverage on Debit cards is ify..:(
