We stopped at the Chevron Station just east of Goldbar Washington. The sign said Diesel, Cash $3.89, Credit $3.99. I filled up the truck, took about 40 gallons. Went inside to pay with Debit card and I was charged $3.99 a gallon. I asked for the cash price and I was told that 'cash" now means cash money, folding money, No Plastic!Paid the $3.99 price but felt like I was ripped off for the four buck difference. Just a heads up, don't know if ALL Chevron stations are doing this now.Travel Safe...

Been that way around here for a long time, cash means cash, no matter what brand is on the station.

I thought the choice was cash or credit. it seems to me that credit cards are credit? what would cash mean if not $$$$ folding money?bumpy

When did you come out of the cave? Just kidding. It's been that way as long as I remember. Cash means cash.

I don't see any problems. The stations advertised a cash price and a credit card price. Since when does a credit card transaction = cash?

A debit transaction is processed as a credit transaction and therefore the merchant has to pay the transaction fee...

Some merchants choose to not pass on the transaction fee but most will pass the fee on to consumers via higher prices...

Our local station has a cash/credit price, if you use a debit card it is treated as a cash transaction. Who knows maybe the next time I stop in I will have to check what there game plan may be.

You obviously missed my earlier post. The debit fee is in the order of ten cents and not the two percent for credit cards. That's not even close. :S

powerderman is right- there is a cost difference between debit transactions and credit transactions. I'm often asked at check-out time if I'm running the card as debit or credit at various establishments. If it's a small mom and pop shop, I'll ask them which is more beneficial to them- almost always the answer is debit. So I tell them do it as debit.

Bull Rider is also right- it's inconsistent across sellers. Some DO offer the cash price for debit transactions.

Around here most gas stations treat debit same as cash at the pumps. There are some that really mean cash but they are the exception.

Not here. Most pumps treat debit as a debit, credit as a credit. Sometimes you can use your debit as credit.

Contact your credit card company, in Canada the card companies won't let the retailer charge extra when a card is used and revoke their ability to accept credit cards, see how that works for them.

I never quoted a price per transaction...but they are all processed as a credit transaction
