Similar thing happened in Nashville last year. To avoid blocking the travel lane, I waited along the curb. As the guy fueling was finishing up, I flipped on the turn signal. Some fellow came in from the other direction as I started to roll and pulled up to the pump.
When he opened his door I was standing there and very politely said "Excuse me, but I was next in line for this pump." He actually said he didn't see me, so I suggested that if he could not see a 32-foot motorhome with headlights and a turn signal on, then he did not need to be driving. He moved on.
