I know some people who fulltime that have a lot up North and one in Florida. I don't think they want/have plans to going back to home ownership.
I consider myself a reverse snowbird. I go North of a summer and stay at home working on projects during the winter.
I will probably take a trip to the South during the Winter but not the entire Winter.
A lot of people when they retire get rid of the big house they raised a family in for a smaller place or condo so a RV might be a good transition.
I know if I ever sell my house I doubt I would purchase another.
