I think that's a great idea! You could have magnetic signs, and just ask at check in if the signs are ok or if they need you to remove them.

I bet most would let you keep the signs on. Just asking would reassure them that you are a considerate person -- and even if they do want you to take off the signs, the cg staff will then know about your business in case anyone asks them if they know of a nearby mechanic!

Workers From Their RV

There are a lot of younger folks that have created Amazon affiliate links, tech based, Photography, Etsy, Ebay type businesses on the road but generally most we read about are USA based, whereas as Canadians we are limited on how we can generate income during the winter months.

Travels with Kevin and Ruth are a couple that retired early from Ontario and host at an RV park in Sask' in the summer (May to Sept?) and then travel during the remainder of the year - think they have a cabin for their use when at the CG. Also there's another Canadian couple with a young daughter and dog (think they have a C series but I can't recall their names) that have been hosting in the summer in a Campground in BC and then spend the winters in Mexico by choice or western part of the USA.

IIRC, I stumbled upon the family write ups on Hitchupandgo.com or Hitchitch.com - so if you've got some time to check out the listings of blogs/websites on there belonging to RVers you might find it. Also there's a lovely couple from BC, that initially sold their home on the island to go RVing for a year and then didn't stop. Ray Love and his Photographer wife have created an income on the road - LoveYourRV.com. Racking my brains here, and I hope I'm not mistaken but a couple called Vidler from Ontario, again IIRC, he works in RV sales for a dealership during the summer months and they travel in the winter in the USA.

Auto/Mechanic/RV Repairs if obvious and you don't mind, I would imagine you'd get many folks approach you for a repair and make their day. Just thinking here, as I know over the years when we've had a few issues, if we'd known of someone nearby we'd have approached them for a quote etc.

I would expect you could find work pretty much anywhere as a Mobile Mechanic. Just setup Craigs Lists ads or the equivalent where ever you travel. When you move on, take the ads down.

If your wife is looking to work as well, with her management and finance background she should consider being a virtual assistant. She can pick and choose clients and work on her time. Have her look at sites like Elance.com for freelance jobs. People post projects they need completed and she can offer bids and get hired.

I am a web site developer. I can work where ever as long as I have my laptop with me. Most of the time I don't even need internet access, although it is nice to have. With the exception of my largest clients, most of my clients have no idea whether I'm at home or 1000 miles away. I have many clients that I have never met.

Although we do not full time, we do home school our kids (12 & 14) and travel a good bit between conferences, home school field trips, classes & co-ops, etc. We also camp seasonally for the summer. With all those trips combined, we spend anywhere from 5 to 6 months away from home.

I think the wife and kids would like to full time. I always figured as a fireman and medic that just wouldn't work. Besides state licensure issues what fire chief would employ a temp. Having said all that when you said you were a fireman I had a thought. Maybe a temp firefighter could fly? Every dept has guys off on long term illness or injury and it puts depts in a bind. Guys get tired of working ot. Anyways just thinking out loud!

Are you planning on working permanently or traveling and working? There would be different types of jobs for each.

Since you're a certified mechanic I would recommend you check the RV facilities. You might have to train for RV mechanic though. We have friends who work for the forest service during fire season. You have to be ready to go when called. For your wife, perhaps a RV park office.

There are more and more young full-time RVers nowadays and they need to work so there are things out there. Many are able to work from their RV via internet. Try Googling 'RVing and Working' or something like that. You might come up with some blogs of working RVers to read. Of course, there are always volunteer jobs in campground and normally you'll get a campsite which can save you some money. You might want to post something on the Full-timing Forum. Good luck!

Sorry for any confusion folks, I did mean any jobs. Thank you for all the info given already. Just for a little more background, I am a certified mechanic and autobody repair. I was a firefighter before that. I was also in fibreglass manufacturing for 8 years. My wife has a background in accounting and management. Thanks again for all the help.
