I was hiking Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park and a Timber Rattler struck at me but missed. I always wear full height leather boots when hiking so even if it hit its mark it would have gotten cow hide rather than my hide. I used a stick to pick it up and flick it off the trail because more hikers were coming behind. Of course I took pictures of it first.
In Smoky Mountain National park I was up before dawn and while pouring water into the fresh water tank a Copperhead slithered right across my bare feet.
