My gosh, the big motorhomes we saw at the RV show a week back were overwhelmingly gaudy. They looked like a Las Vegas casino inside, what with all the lights everywhere: strip lights, neon lights, undercabinet lights, LED cord lights. Way too much for my tastes for sure. And the outside wasn't much better, with lots of outdoor lighting too. Ick. I can see that you'd need a lot of power to run all the stuff there was besides the lights. Over the top a bit I thought.
We call those interior designs "retro brothel"... ;) - fj12ryderExplorer IIIMy gosh, the big motorhomes we saw at the RV show a week back were overwhelmingly gaudy. And these new fancy 100 and 200 amp rigs probably have a hard time dry camping without a generator. Just great.
They're probably going to need 2 or 3 generators to handle all the "luxuries"... :(
Just out of curiosity, I did a search on small class Cs. Unless something drastic changes, I don't see myself putting $70K+ into a new motorhome. I found the floorplans awful for anything under 27ft. No comfortable seating unless you give up the dinette because they've all eliminated the couch so they can fit the queen bed in back. Teeny tiny little windows that offer no enjoyment of the outdoors from the inside. The house door is at the front next to the passenger door (really, with 3 doors, you can't put one towards the back of the RV). 2 to 3 TVs taking up storage space (or windows). Claustrophobic overcab bunks.
Guess I'll stick with my American Clipper and enjoy my huge picture windows, couch, room cabover bunk with windows, and no TVs. - korbeExplorerAnd these new fancy 100 and 200 amp rigs probably have a hard time dry camping without a generator. Just great.

Remember, you only have to get it parked one time per vacation.
Depends on how you vacation. Many people travel long distances, only staying in one campground/RV park for a couple days. They may be parking 10 to 30 times during their trip.
I have always followed the "buy what fits you best" versus "the bigger the better" or "the more the better" rules. I have the basics in my clipper and it is a mere 21ft. It is plenty for me. I don't need all the "luxuries", I don't need all the extras. So why would I buy all that? - Homer1ExplorerThat is the word on the street smaller is better. My next one will be smaller, with advent of slides, I just do not need that much length. I am outside most of the time. When it rains I head to the mall or other indoor place of interest.
- mockturtleExplorer IIYes, he makes some good points. I was recently in a small, older RV park where a large group of 40-footers moved in for the night. The sites were not really adequate in size or facilities but no doubt the owner had assured the club otherwise. I would guess there were a few unhappy campers.
But, while the industry may be making bigger and more complex rigs, much of the population is going for smaller, more energy-efficient rigs. Like mine! :) - lawnspecialtiesExplorerObviously, good points and not so good.
100 amp service? That seems silly but then again, three ACs on the roof are far more common. Where does it end?
CDL type license for RV drivers? Although it would make things somewhat safer, I don't see that happening anytime soon. For one, the RV manufacturers would fight that one hard. Besides, I don't see it being a huge necessity. Yes, its hilarious and at the same time, frustrating to see some guy with no clue try to back his $150,000 rig into a spot. But big RV wrecks on the highways just aren't that commonplace.
I for one always want the biggest camper I can afford. Remember, you only have to get it parked one time per vacation.
