Hate to say "I told you so" to the manufacturers eliminating most vehicles that get the best MPG ( lite weight compact, sub-compact sedans, wagons and hatchbacks). If gas continues to go up, consumers...

If you want tiny fuel efficient cars...buy them!!!
Manufacturers build what people buy. This isn't some secret cabal to eliminate small fuel efficient cars. They are simply meeting demand.
But realistically, most smaller SUV's are just station wagons re-branded as "trucks".
Also, this is not like the 1970's when they had no options when gas prices went up. All the major manufacturers have small overseas models, so if the demand comes back, they can bring them back in a heartbeat.
