- NJRVerExplorerWe would always gas up in Emporia, VA before we got to NC because gas was so much cheaper.
I guess they see the cash cows coming now. - 3_dog_nightsExplorerOk, based on the OP's orginal note. Assuming a 20 gal. purchase he paid $7.60 too much. Big whoop. If you need gas, and you need a break...stop. Rarely is it going to make enough of a difference to break you.

Funny you mentioned that. When I lived in southern California 20 years ago, every one back home in Georgia kept assuming how expensive it was to lie out there. Housing, yes was a little more expensive. Depends on where you live. Live in LA or San Diego, yes, because everyone wants to live there. The further out you go, the better. Willing to go into the high desert, even better. But a lot of the time it depends on location. Sure, I can live on the lake here for $300,000, but that's in about 1200 sq ft trailer. It all depends on location.
I took my wife and daughter out to LA a couple years ago. Rented a car and I remember gas might of been 20 cents more a gallon out there than back here in NC where we live. Heck, I can go 30 miles down the road and it's at least 10-15 cents more than where I live. And then there's a town about 6 miles away that may be 10 cents cheaper than where we live. They charge what people will pay...not a ripoff. No one made you pay there.
Would have been cheaper if you told the truth:B - wbwoodExplorer

One thing you find is that counties may have different tax rates, in part based on higher property values in one city or township as opposed to another, and the station in the TAXED area has to charge more than the one in the taxed area.
There are a few other things that affect this too.
So how do you combat....

I recall waking up at a flying J one day and checking gas prices.. TWO lowest prices in 3 states (KY, OH, MI) were said J and the Pilot (Same company/price) across the road. - FlatBrokeExplorer II

Why didn't you invest your money to buy those options and start taking in 35 grand a month? Obviously it must of been a sure deal. Why didn't you invest your money and punch 500 wells (it only costs around $4,000,000 per well) Then you too could be making a cool million per month, and at that rate you would pay off your wells in 166 years. Of course you could end up with a dry hole and go broke, but nobody ever talks about that because we are only jealous of the winners.
I live in oil boom country. I have a friend that bought oil options and now bringing in 35 grand a month. A rancher that has punched over 500 wells, reported to be bringing in a cool million a month. It's no wonder fuel is not going down. These poor folks have a life style to maintain.
Ha ha, funny guy, my hind sight has always been better than my foresight. And now for the whole strory. The rancher had a unknown millions to start with. Not much chance at dry holes around here. Heard of fracking? They are even buying up mineral rights in the middle of town. Heard of angle drilling? - kcmoedoeExplorer

I love it when coming thru Needles, CA and see their gas (or even Dairy Queen) prices. You continue east on the interstate to just above Lake Havasu City, AZ and it has been $1.00 cheaper. We overnight in Needles - as we will in early October - occasionally and don't buy a thing there.
Been there saw that.I think that they don't want to sell very much fuel.It only takes one time for most folks to learn...get fuel ANYWHERE except Needles, CA - restlesswindExplorer
